CityEmail - Desktop Email Client Setup Guides

Please select your desktop email client below for instructions on how to set it up to work with CityEmail.

NOTE: If you are having trouble setting up your email client or if you cannot send/receive messages after following these instructions, please contact your mail service provider.

Mac Mail

  1. Go to Mail on the menu and select Preferences
  2. On the menu that pops up click the + on the bottom left
  3. This will bring up a new window, type your Full Name, Email Address and Password then press continue
  4. On the next windows select IMAP from the drop down, then fill in the description
  5. For you incoming mail server, type mail.cityemail.com, use your full email address as the login and the account password.
  6. Press Continue
  7. On the next page check mark Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and make sure that Authentication is set to Password
  8. Press Continue
  9. For outgoing mail server enter mail.cityemail.com
  10. Check mark Use Authentication then use your full email address as the User Name and enter the password
  11. Press Continue
  12. On the next page check mark Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and make sure that Authentication is set to Password
  13. Press Continue
  14. Press Create

Mozilla Thunderbird

  1. Click on the Account Settings from the Edit menu.
  2. From the Account Actions drop down menu select Add Mail Account
  3. Now type in Your Name, Email address and Password and press Continue (press manual-config if it takes a while)
  4. Make sure for incoming server IMAP is selected
  5. For incoming and outgoing Server hostname use mail.cityemail.com
  6. Select SSL/TLS for Incoming and STARTTLS for outgoing server
  7. Verify that the incoming port is 993
  8. Verify that the outgoing port is 587
  9. For Username Use your full email address
  10. Click on Re-test, if it works click on Done otherwise review your settings

  11. NOTE: If your email client does not support submissions on port 587 with STARTTLS or TLS/SSL, please use port 465 with SSL encryption for the outgoing server.

Outlook 2016, 2019, 2021 & Outlook for Microsoft 365

  1. Click File view
  2. Click Account Settings view
  3. Click Add Account
  4. Select Manual setup or additional server types then Next view
  5. Select POP or IMAP then Next view
  6. Under "User Information", Type Your Name and Your Email Address view
  7. Under "Server Information", Select IMAP as the Account Type
  8. Type in the following for the Incoming Mail Server: mail.cityemail.com
  9. Type in the following for the Outgoing Mail Server: mail.cityemail.com
  10. Under "Logon Information", Type your email address for the "User Name" field
  11. Under "Logon Information", Type your password for the "Password" field
  12. Click "More Setting..."
  13. Click the Outgoing Server tab view
  14. Select My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
  15. Click the Advanced tab view
  16. Select SSL for Incoming server (IMAP)'s "Use the following type of encrypted connections:"
  17. Type 587 for "Outgoing server (SMTP):"
  18. Select TLS for Outgoing server (SMTP)'s "Use the following type of encrypted connections:"
  19. Click the OK button
  20. Click the Next button at the Add Account screen view

Windows Mail

  1. Click Tools
  2. Click Accounts and press Add...
  3. Click on E-mail account then press Next
  4. Type in your Display Name
  5. Type in your E-mail Address
  6. Select IMAP from Incoming e-mail server type
  7. Click the Servers Tab
  8. Type in the following for Incoming Mail IMAP: mail.cityemail.com
  9. Type in the following for Outgoing Mail SMTP: mail.cityemail.com
  10. Click the checkbox My Outgoing Server (SMTP) Requires Authentication then press Next
  11. Enter your full E-mail Address as your E-mail username and enter your Password
  12. Click Next
  13. Click Finish
  14. Now Select the account from the list on the left and click on Properties
  15. Click on the Servers tab
  16. On the bottom check mark My Server requires authentication then press settings
  17. Verify Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected then press ok
  18. Click the Advanced Tab
  19. Check mark This server requires a secure connection (SSL) for both incoming and outgoing
  20. Type 587 in the Outgoing Server Port field
  21. Type 993 for the incoming mail (IMAP)
  22. Click on Apply then ok
  23. Click Ok
  24. Click Close

Android Devices

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Select Accounts and Backup
  3. Select Account
  4. Select Add Account
  5. Select Email
  6. Select Other
  7. Enter your full email address and password, then press Manual Setup
  8. Select IMAP for type of account
  9. Enter your full email address for Email Address AND Username
  10. Enter your account password
  11. For IMAP Server enter: mail.cityemail.com
  12. Select SSL (accept all certificates) as security type
  13. Verify that the incoming port is 993
  14. Press Next
  15. For SMTP Server enter: mail.cityemail.com
  16. Security type TLS (accept all certificates)
  17. Verify the port for the outgoing server is 587
  18. Username should be full email address and passsword
  19. Press Sign in
  20. Select the options you wish to use for push notification (ie. auto check mail)
  21. Press Next, give the account a name and save/done

* Alternatively, please follow the instructions below to manually set up your email account:

  1. Tap Settings
  2. Scroll down and tap Mail, Contacts, Calendar
  3. Tap Add Account
  4. Select Other"
  5. Add Mail Account
  6. Fill in your Name, Address (full email address), password and a description of the account, then press Save
  7. Select IMAP
  8. Fill the in the following information: Name, Address (full email address), Description
  9. Incoming Server: mail.cityemail.com, username: full email address, password
  10. Outgoing server: mail.cityemail.com, username: full email address, password
  11. In the "Advanced" section: Use SSL = enabled
  12. In the "Advanced" section: IMAP Path Prefix = INBOX (must be all capital letters)
  13. Done
